Pioneering Sustainable Agriculture: Tackling Global Challenges with Advanced Technologies
Rapid population growth strains our global food systems, demanding greater efficiency and sustainability from both crop cultivation and livestock farming. Climate variability introduces unpredictability, affecting agricultural productivity and the well-being of farm animals. Simultaneously, resource constraints, including water and land availability, compound the complexity. Meeting these challenges requires innovative solutions that enhance productivity without harming the environment.
Theta Vision addresses these complexities head-on. We are developing a suite of technologically advanced solutions designed to propel the entire agricultural sector—from the field to the farmstead—into a more resilient, productive, and sustainable future.
Domain knowledge
Collaboratively, we are at the forefront of agricultural innovation, driving groundbreaking work on mathematical models that transcend boundaries across various crops. These models, the result of collaboration with experienced growers and researchers, embody decades of industry knowledge. Rooted in data-driven insights, our project revolutionizes indoor farming by providing adaptable solutions for a multitude of crops.
To make the mathematical model insightful to all, we are also developing a custom user interface that requires minimal training. This interface seamlessly integrates with our mathematical models, empowering users to leverage the full potential of the models.
Precision seeding
In the realm of precision agriculture, Theta Vision leverages the capabilities of computer vision to redefine the seeding process. Through the strategic use of synthetic data augmentation, we address a common challenge where up to 10% of seedling cups from automated seeding machines remain empty, we developed a solution that employs computer vision algorithms. Taking innovation further, our solution is implemented on an edge device, ensuring real-time analysis directly at the source.
This dual approach not only eliminates missed yield and resource wastage but also exemplifies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of agricultural technology. Theta Vision envisions a future where missed yield and resource wastage are eliminated. Our seamless integration of synthetic data and edge computing maximizes efficiency, marking strides in the evolution of precision seeding.
Animal welfare
Harmful social behaviors in group-housed animals such as pigs, are a consistent challenge for both animal welfare and farm productivity. A primary difficulty for farmers is accurately identifying which specific animal is initiating these actions within a large group. To address this, Theta Vision is developing a tracking system in collaboration with the Technical University of Eindhoven and Wageningen University that uses computer vision and AI to analyze footage from the pen.
The goal of this system is to provide farmers with timely, actionable alerts that pinpoint the responsible animal. This allows for targeted interventions, such as separating a single aggressive pig, rather than relying on group-wide solutions that may be less effective. The goal is to help reduce injuries and stress, improve the overall welfare of the herd, and support a more stable and productive farm environment.
